His Selected Poems appeared the same year. In 1983 he was awarded another Ingram Merrill fellowship and an American Academy award, and in 1986 he received a prestigious MacArthur Foundation fellowship. The next decade was traumatic. Todes died in 1994 at the age of sixty-seven, followed by Merrill in 1995. Hine’s own health was declining—among other ailments, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease—and after Ovid’s Heroines (1991) he didn’t publish another book for ten years. In 2005 he was awarded the Harold Morton Landon Translation Award by the Academy of American Poets.
